Otaka Masaki - 大鷹 雅規 (born September 16, 1960) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Bizen, Okayama. He made his debut in March 1976 and last wrestled for Taiho stable. He reached the juryo division in September 1985. His highest rank was juryo 4 and he retired in January 1989.
Early Life[]
During his third year in junior high school, Masayuki became fascinated with sumo, specifically yokozuna Taiho, and wrote a letter of intent to join sumo to Taiho stable. After graduating from junior high school, he joined Taiho stable.
Career[]
Sadahisa made his professional debut in March 1976. He wrestled under the shikona's "Gyoho" (暁鵬) and "Gyokuho" (堯公鵬) before switching to "Otaka" (大鷹) in January 1983. After nine and a half years in the lower divisions, he was promoted to juryo in September 1985. Otaka spent a total of 13 tournaments in juryo, reaching as high as juryo 4 in January 1986. He was demoted from juryo in November 1987 and he announced his retirement after the January 1989 tournament.
Fighting Style[]
Otaka was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a migi-yotsu (left hand outside, right hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
