Yoshidagawa is the only sekitori from Otowayama stable

Otowayama Stable (音羽山部屋, Otowayama-beya) was a stable of sumo wrestlers. The stable was established in May 1930 by former maegashira Shiraiwa. It closed its doors in October 1946, and its staff transferred to Tokitsukaze stable.

History[]

Otowayama stable can be traced back since the Edo Period, however, the most recent incarnation was established in May 1930 by former maegashira Shiraiwa. The stable was unable to produce any sekitori and it closed down in October 1946 with all its personnel transferring to Tokitsukaze stable. Among the wrestlers transferring to Tokitsukaze stable was future maegashira Yoshidagawa who was still in jonidan at the time. He is the only sekitori with roots tracing back to Otowayama stable.
