Oyama stable (大山部屋, Oyama-beya) was a stable of sumo wrestlers, part of the Takasago ichimon or group of stables. It was established in January 1940 by former sekiwake Takanobori of the Takasago stable. It closed its doors in June 1986, and its staff transferred to Takasago stable.

History[]

Oyama stable was established by former sekiwake Takanobori in January 1940 after he retired in May 1939. The stable's top wrestler was Matsunobori who reach the ozeki rank in January 1956. Oyama Oyakata suddenly passed away in 1962 and Matsunobori inherited the stable. The stable was small in size and thus had an homely atmosphere. Oyama Oyakata (former ozeki Matsunobori) produced one top wrestler, Onobori (later Daihi), who was promoted to makuuchi in January 1977. Oyama Oyakata passed away in 1986 and Daihi thus inherited the stable. However, only one month later, the stable closed with all its personnel transferring to Takasago stable.
