Sengaku Daisuke - 閃岳 大輔 (born June 12, 1991) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Odate, Akita. He made his debut in January 2010 and currently wrestles for Kise stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 13.

Early Life[]

Sasaki began sumo wrestling when he was in elementary school and attended a sumo club in Hirosaki, Aomori, which is near his hometown of Odate, Akita. Sasaki then attended Hirosaki Shiritsu Daini Junior High School where he was one of the top junior high school wrestlers in the Tohoku region. Due to this, Sasaki joined Saitama Sakae High School's powerhouse sumo program and achieved strong results on the national stage. After graduating high school, Sasaki joined Kise stable.[1]

Career[]

Sasaki made his professional debut in January 2010 under the shikona "Sasakiyama" (佐々木山). He won the jonokuchi yusho in March 2010 with a perfect 7-0 record. In the following May 2010 tournament, he won all seven matches again, but missed out on the jonidan yusho after losing to Saishin in a playoff. Nevertheless, he followed with two winning records in sandanme and was promoted to makushita in November 2010.

He briefly wrestled in Kitanoumi stable from May 2010 to April 2012 after his stablemaster (former maegashira Higonoumi) was caught in a yakuza-related scandal.[2] In November 2015, Sasakiyama injured his left elbow and had to undergo surgery.[1] He was promoted to a career-best makushita 13 in May 2017, but he finished with a poor 1-6 record in this tournament.

In September 2017, Sasakiyama fractured his right ankle and had to sit out for four consecutive tournaments.[3] When he returned in May 2018, he had fallen down to the jonidan division. In his return, Sasakiyama missed out on the jonidan yusho after losing to Hoshoryu in his final match. In the following July 2018 tournament, Sasakiyama won all of his seven matches, but missed out on the sandanme yusho after losing to Kagamio in a playoff. Nevertheless, he returned to makushita for the following September 2018 tournament.

In September 2024, he was given the new shikona "Sengaku" (閃岳).[4]
