Early Life[]
Yasuki Ito was born on January 31, 2003, in Soka, Saitama. He began sumo wrestling in the first grade at a local sumo club. He attended Kashiwa 2nd Junior High School in Chiba, and in his third year, he placed third in the individual competition at the National Prefectural Junior High School Tournament and won the team championship at the National Junior High School Tournament. He then attended Sanbongi Agricultural High School in Aomori where he reached the top 8 in the team competition at the National High School Selection Towada Tournament during his second year. After graduating high school, he joined Shikoroyama stable which was home to his older brother, Chikashi Ito, who wrestles under the shikona Mineyaiba.[1]
Career[]
Ito made his professional debut in July 2021 and initially wrestled under his family name. He finished with a solid 5-2 record in his first professional tournament, however, he was unable to post consistent results in the following tournaments. After a year in jonidan, he was promoted to sandanme in January 2023, however, he was unable to establish himself in the division, and mainly wrestles in the jonidan division.[2]
In May 2024, he was given the shikona "Shotaimu" (翔大夢). The name incorporates "Sho" (翔) from Hakuho Sho, "Tai" (大) from Taiho, and the meaning of "chasing one's dreams". Due to its pronunciation, it also evokes "Show Time", making him a topic of interest as a uniquely named rikishi. The shikona was devised by his late stablemaster, former sekiwake Terao, who had passed away in December 2023.[1]
Personal Life[]
- Shotaimu's older brother, Chikashi Ito, is also a sumo wrestler at Shikoroyama stable. He wrestles in the makushita division under the shikona Mineyaiba.[1]
Fighting Style[]
