Taiga Kisho - 太牙 希賞 (born July 21, 1980) is a former Mongolian professional sumo wrestler from Ulaanbaatar. He made his debut in March 2001 and wrestled for Shikihide stable. His highest rank was makushita 19 and he retired in July 2014.
Early Life[]
Sumiyabazar Sharbuyanhuu came to Japan on October 25, 2000, alongside six other Mongolians (which included 69th-yokozuna Hakuho and stablemate Sensho). The seven Mongolians first practiced sumo at the Settsu Warehouse sumo club (摂津倉庫) and he got an offer from Shikihide stable. He was given the shikona "Taiga" (大河) and made his professional debut in March 2001.
Career[]
Taiga rose up the jonokuchi and jonidan divisions in gradual fashion and reached the sandanme division in September 2002. He spent two years in sandanme before reaching makushita in September 2004. However, his makushita experience was quite short and he was immediately demoted back down to sandanme. In May 2006 he was promoted back to makushita, but in the following tournament he suffered an injury and had to pull out on the tenth day. As a result he fell back down to sandanme. After being promoted to makushita for the fourth time in 2008, he was able to establish himself in the division, but due to more injuries, he was demoted back down to sandanme in September 2010. It was not until May 2012, when Taiga established himself in the division again. In May 2013, Taiga was gunning for the makushita yusho as he won all of his first six matches, however, he lost the last match to Wakamisho (future Terunofuji) and lost out on the yusho to Osunaarashi. Nonetheless, he was promoted to a career-best makushita 19 in July 2013, however, this rank proved to high as he lost all of his matches. In the following tournament his shikona changed to "Daioko" (大黄虎), but he still produced a 1-6 record and was demoted back down to the sandanme division.
Retirement from Sumo[]
He changed his shikona back to "Taiga" (太牙) in March 2014, but continued to struggle in his sumo. His retirement was announced after a winless record in July 2014.
According to his Facebook, as of 2020, he works as a sports psychologist.
Fighting Style[]
