Takakento Masatora - 貴健斗 誠虎 (born February 10, 1996) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Yatsushiro, Kumamoto. He made his debut in January 2014 and currently wrestles for Tokiwayama stable. He reached the juryo division in March 2021. His highest rank as of 2025 is juryo 4.
Early Life[]
Born in Yatsushiro in 1996, Mizuta began wrestling in the 5th grade at the age of 10.[1] When he was in middle school, he met former yokozuna Takanohana Koji, who had come to observe a training session.[2] Mizuta maintained his relationship with the former yokozuna after joining Tottori Johoku High School's prestigious sumo club and participated in training camps organized by Takanohana.[2]

In his third year, he became the captain of the club and led it to the number one position in Japan[3] notably winning the Tokyo National Athletic Championships.[1] During his high school years, he notably met Bushozan who was the captain of the rival team of Saitama Sakae High School, another prestigious sumo club. As a result, Bushozan and his team notably inflicted a defeat on Takakento and Johoku High in the team tournament at the 2013 National High School Tournament.[2] In 2014, Takakento joined Takanohana's stable, while Bushozan joined Fujishima stable, and began a friendly rivalry with him,[4] saying "I don't want to lose (to him)".[2] Other Yatsushiro recruits from that year included the current Genbumaru (Onoe stable).[1]
Career[]
Early Career[]
He initially wrestled under his surname "Mizuta" (水田) and he breezed through the bottom three divisions. He spent only one tournament in jonokuchi and jonidan and two tournaments in sandanme. He was promoted to makushita in November 2014 and in March 2015 he won his first six matches and was gunning for the makushita yusho, but he lost his last match to Dewahayate.[5]
In November 2015 he withdrew midway from the tournament due to damage on the anterior cruciate ligament on his left knee. However, further examination showed that a rupture did not occur and he continued to wrestle. However he re-injured his left knee and temporarily fell back down to sandanme before returning in May 2017.[6]

Takakento during his time in makushita (c. 2019)
In July 2016, he was given the shikona, or ring name, Takakento, a combination of the first kanji character of his master's name (Takanohana) and his real first name (Kento). The first name of his shikona was given to him to evoke one of the names of Uesugi Kenshin (Uesugi Terutora). When Takanohana retired in 2018, Takakento was transferred to Chiganoura stable (later renamed Tokiwayama stable).[7] At the time, he was the uchi-deshi, or attendant, of ozeki Takakeisho[8] and Takakento often praise the ozeki who helped him to train and prepare mentally.[9] In January 2021 he was ranked at the top of makushita and he produced a 5-2 record which earned him a promotion to juryo for the following March tournament.[5]
Juryo Career[]
Takakento struggled initially in his juryo debut and lost his first four matches. He went on to win the following five matches. He lost on the final day to Shohozan to finish with a losing record of 7-8. Luckily, he suffered no loss in rank for the next May tournament. He posted a 10-5 record in May and was promoted to the rank of juryo 4 in July, but he only managed a 3-12 record in this tournament. He lost juryo status after the September 2021 tournament, but was promoted back in March 2022. He finished that tournament at seven wins and eight losses, remaining at the same rank for the next tournament due to the balance of promotion and demotion. In May, he again scored 7–8, and was demoted to makushita after losing to Chiyosakae on the final day. Takakento, however, regained his juryo rank in July of the same year.[5]
Takakento continued his career in juryo in January 2023 and was the first opponent of former ozeki Asanoyama who, returning from suspension, was moving up in the rankings. In March 2023, he faced and was defeated by fellow Johoku High alumni, Ochiai Tetsuya, who expressed his respect for him for having been the captain of his team when he was in fourth grade himself.[10]
Personal Life[]
- Takakento's hobby is watching anime, his favorite foods are ramen and meat, and his favorite artist is Soun Takeda.[11]
- Ever since the spring jungyo tournament of 2017, Takakento has been in charge of comic sumo displays (初っ切り, shokkiri) on regional tours and exhibition tournaments. His partner in the performances was Akua of the Tatsunami stable. Since they are both now sekitori, they do not perform this during the regional tours and exhibition tournaments.[12]
