Tamahikuni - 玉比国 - is a former Filipino professional sumo wrestler. He made his debut in September 1988 and wrestled for Kataonami stable. His highest rank was jonokuchi 30 and he retired in September 1989.
Early Life[]
After watching a sumo documentary, a good number of young Filipinos were inspired to try the sport, so they wrote to the local office of the Japan Society to ask how to join the sport. Kataonami Oyakata (ex-sekiwake Tamanofuji) personally flew to Manila to interview and select three that he felt had the greatest potential. Jun Terrado was chosen alongside Angelito Labampa (Tamahinada) and Samson Pael (Tamahiryu).
Career[]
Jun Terrado made his debut on September 1988 under the shikona "Tamahikuni" (玉比国). In his only first professional tournament he produced a losing record of 3-4 after losing his last three matches. He and his Fillipino stablemates ended up running out of the stable after a year. According to Newsweek, the three runaway Filipinos, after which who were known as the "Rakazu-Tama" Trio, took up sumo as a scam to get work visas.
