Tamakongo Takuma - 玉金剛 拓磨 (born September 19, 1995) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Kasama, Ibaraki. He made his debut in March 2014 and wrestled for Kataonami Stable. His highest rank was makushita 25 and he retired in March 2022.

Early Life[]

Takuma Kogure was born on September 19, 1995, in Kasama, Ibaraki. He attended Toyo University Ushiku Senior High School where he was a member of the school's sumo club. After graduating high school, Kogure joined Kataonami stable.[1]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in March 2014 and wrestled under his surname Kogure. In July 2014, he was given the shikona "Tamakongo" (玉大輝). He was promoted to the sandanme division in September 2014 and makushita in September 2015. At the time of his makushita debut, Tamakongo had only posted one losing record. However, he was unable to establish himself as a makushita regular and mainly wrestled in the sandanme division.[2]

In March 2017, he won all seven of his matches to claim the sandanme yusho. As a result he was promoted to a career-best rank of makushita 25 in May 2017, however, he finished with a disastrous 0-7 record. He followed with a 1-6 record in July 2017 and was relegated back to sandanme by September 2017.[2]

From May 2019 to March 2020, Tamakongo and senior stablemate Tamawashi were the only wrestlers in Kataonami stable. Throughout his career, Tamakongo served as Tamawashi's tsukebito, or personal servant. He retired from sumo in March 2022. His danpatsu-shiki, or retirement ceremony, was held on April 9, 2022.[3]
