Tochiiyama Hiroyuki - 栃偉山 弘行 (born March 30, 1949) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Chiba City, Chiba. He made his debut in November 1967 and wrestled for Kasugano stable. He reached the juryo division in September 1973. His highest rank was juryo 13 and he retired in March 1975.

Basketball Career[]

Prior to sumo, Ono was a professional basketball player. After graduating from Chiba Commercial High School, he signed a contract with the recently established Daiwa Securities Hot Blizzard of the Basketball Japan League in 1967. However, his father who was a former sandanme wrestler that wrestled under the name "Donannohana" (道南の花) from 1957 to 1961, wanted him to become a professional sumo wrestler.

Sumo Career[]

To succeed his father's wish, he joined Kasugano stable and made his debut in November 1967 at the age of 18. He won the jonokuchi yusho in his first professional debut. Upon promotion to makushita in July 1969, he changed his shikona from his surname Ono to "Tochiiyama" (栃偉山). In July 1973, he produced a 6-1 record at the rank of makushita 6 and was promoted to juryo in September 1973.

In his first tournament as a sekitori, he produced a 4-11 record and was demoted back down to makushita. This proved to be his only tournament ranked in juryo. He announced his retirement after the March 1975 tournament.

Fighting Style[]

Tochiiyama was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a migi-yotsu (left hand outside, right hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite on the sekitori level was uwatenage (overarm throw).
