Early Life[]

Ryutaro Tokuda was born on July 25, 2000, in Tokunoshima, Kagoshima. During his first year at Kedoku Elementary School, Tokuda participated in a sumo wrestling event at a local festival and was invited to join a local sumo club. Alongside sumo, Tokuda also participated in soccer in order to effectively train his legs. In the fifth grade, he was runner-up at the All Japan Elementary School Sumo Championship in 2011. Tokuda went on to attend Higashiamagi Junior High School where he finished runner-up at the National Junior High School Sumo Championship in 2015. After junior high school, Tokuda received many offers from prestigious high school sumo clubs as well as professional sumo stables, however, he opted to join the lesser known Musashigawa stable.[1]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in May 2016 and wrestled under his surname Tokuda. Due to an injury, Tokuda did not wrestle his first full tournament until March 2017. He quickly reached sandanme in July 2017 and was eventually promoted to makushita in January 2019. In September 2019, he was given the shikona "Tokunomusashi" (徳之武藏) in reference to his hometown and his stablemaster (the 67th Yokozuna Musashimaru). He has since wrestled mainly in the mid-level makushita ranks.[2]
