Tomisakae Ryutaro - 富栄 龍太郎 (born April 11, 1992) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Kobe, Hyogo. He made his debut in March 2008 and wrestled for Isegahama stable. His highest rank was makushita 6 and he retired in March 2021.
Early Life[]
Ryutaro Tomita was born on April 11, 1992, in Kobe's Kita Ward. He started practicing judo during his first year at Hibarigaoka Junior High School.[1] During his third year of junior high school, Tomita participated in a sumo tournament and despite being inexperienced, he managed to secure second place. At the tournament, he was noticed by Isegahama Oyakata (the 63rd Yokozuna Asahifuji) and was subsequently recruited into Isegahama stable.[2]
Career[]
He joined Isegahama stable and made his professional debut in March 2008. In September 2008, he was given the shikona "Tomisakae" (富栄). He was promoted to sandanme in May 2011 and makushita in July 2013. At only 1.68 m (5 ft 6 in) and peaking at 122 kg (269 lb), Tomisakae was a rather small wrestler and subsequently struggled to reach the elite sekitori ranks. He reached a career-best rank of makushita 6 in November 2018, however, he could only manage a 2-5 record in that tournament.[3]
Retirement from Sumo[]
Tomisakae retired in March 2021 due to hip and lower back injuries. At the time he had sat out of four consecutive tournaments and was ranked in the second lowest jonidan division.[2] After retiring, Tomisakae started a YouTube channel called "Buhibuhipari" (ブヒブヒパーリー) and as of June 2025, he has around 76,000 subscribers.[4] In addition to YouTube, he has pursued a career in acting and has been involved in the shows Vivant (2023) and Sanctuary (2023).[5]
Personal Life[]
- Tomisakae is known for his eccentric personality and has performed many acts such as backflips, rapping and beatboxing alongside Terunofuji, and impersonations.[2][6][7]
- Tomisakae is close friends with Tobizaru.[2]
- Tomisakae has served as the tsukebito, or personal servant, to Isegahama Oyakata (the 63rd Yokozuna Asahifuji), Asofuji, Harumafuji, Aminishiki, Takarafuji, and Terunofuji.[2]
- As of 2024, Tomisakae has still not underwent a formal danpatsu-shiki, or retirement ceremony.[7]
