Toshunryu Shunsuke - 東俊隆 俊介 (born April 16, 1999) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Chuo, Tokyo. He made his debut in May 2022 and currently wrestles for Tamanoi stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 8.

Early Life[]

Shunsuke Imazeki began sumo wrestling from the age of 4 and entered a local sumo club.[1] He won many prizes in local club competitions but did not perform well at the national wanpaku tournaments. In 2011, Imazeki entered Adachi Shinden High School and was a member of the school's sumo club. He participated well in high school and defeated the likes of Oho and Hoshoryu in high school tournaments. After high school, he enrolled at Nippon Sport Science University's Department of Martial Arts and was a member of the school's sumo club. In his fourth year, Imazeki served as vice-captain of the sumo club and led his school to a team victory at the National Student Sumo Championship. After graduating, he joined Tamanoi stable.[2]

Career[]

He made his professional debut in May 2022 and was given the shikona "Toshunryu" (東俊隆). In March 2023, Toshunryu handed future top division wrestler Takerufuji his first professional career loss. In addition, Toshunryu won all seven of his matches in the tournament, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record to claim the sandanme yusho. He was promoted to makushita for the following May 2023 tournament, however, his career has since stagnated.[3]

Personal Life[]

  • Toshunryu's hobbies are listening to music, hanging out with friends, and training. His favorite food is ramen. [4]
  • Toshunryu initially had his birthplace listed as Minato, Tokyo, before changing it to Chuo, Tokyo.[3]

Toshunryu is an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used is hatakikomi (slap down). He also regularly employs okuridashi (rear push out), oshidashi (push out), and tsukidashi (thrust out).[5]
