Tsuya Sekko - 津谷 石光 (born October 13, 1991) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Kitaakita, Akita. He made his debut in March 2008 and wrestled for Naruto stable. His highest rank was sandanme 79 and he retired in November 2011.
Early Life[]
Sekko Cho was born on October 13, 1991, in Kitaakita, Akita, and is of Chinese descent. He attended Takanosu Elementary School and was a member of the baseball club during his 5th and 6th year. He then enrolled at Kitaakita Shiritsu Takanosu Junior High School where he found success at the school's judo club.
Although he had minimal sumo experience, Cho aspired to become a sumo wrestler and upon graduating junior high school he received multiple offers from professional sumo stables. He opted to join Naruto stable after being personally recruited by Naruto Oyakata (the 59th yokozuna Takanosato).
Career[]
He made his professional debut in March 2008 and was given the shikona "Tsuya" (津谷). After nearly three years in the jonidan division, he was promoted to sandanme in January 2011. He reached a career-best sandanme 79 in May 2011, but finished with a disastrous 0-7 record in this tournament. He retired shortly after in November 2011.
Fighting Style[]
Tsuya was an oshi-sumo wrestler who prefers pushing and thrusting techniques to fighting on the mawashi. His most common kimarite used was a straightforward oshidashi, or push out.
