Ozeki Raiden was the stable's top wrestler

Urakaze stable (浦風部屋, Urakaze-beya) was a stable of sumo wrestlers which was established in the Edo period and was shut down 1930. It was revived in 1935, but shut down in February 1962 with all personnel transferring to Tokitsukaze stable.

History[]

Urakaze stable was established sometime in the Edo period and was home to Ozeki Raiden Tameemon who was considered to be one of the greatest wrestlers in sumo history. The stable closed down in 1903 after Urakaze Oyakata (former sekiwake Urakaze Rinemon) passed away and the remaining wrestlers transferred to Takasago stable. In May 1904, former maegashira Komatsuyama Yosamatsu revived Urakaze stable, but it later closed in May 1930. The stable was revived once again in January 1935 by former maegashira Taroyama Yukichi. However, the newly established Urakaze stable was unable to produce any new sekitori and it shut down in February 1962.
