Wakamifuji Shigeto - 若三藤 成豊 (born July 16, 1985) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Hirosaki, Aomori. He made his debut in March 2001 and wrestled for Magaki stable. His highest rank was makushita 14 and he retired in November 2010.
Early Life[]
Shigeto Fujita was born on July 16, 1985, in Hirosaki, Aomori. Prior to joining professional sumo, he played table tennis. After graduating junior high school, he joined Magaki stable.
Career[]
He made his professional debut in March 2001 and was given the shikona "Wakafujita" (若藤田). He initially struggled due to his inexperience in the sport and he did not reach jonidan until March 2002. He reached the sandanme division in March 2004 and was given the new shikona "Wakamifuji" (若三藤) in January 2006.
In September 2006, Wakamifuji defeated Sakaizawa on the 11th day to snap his 19 match win streak and he also defeated Sasaki on the 13th day to finish with a perfect 7-0 record. He subsequently took the sandanme yusho and was promoted to makushita for the following November 2006 tournament. In November 2006, he was promoted to the rank of makushita 14, however, he followed with four consecutive losing records and was demoted back down to sandanme in July 2007. He spent the majority of his later career in makushita with a couple stints in sandanme. He retired from sumo in November 2010.

Wakamifuji was a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He favored a migi-yotsu (left hand outside, right hand inside) position when gripping his opponent's mawashi (belt). His most common kimarite was yorikiri, or force out.
