Wakayashima Taisei - 若八嶋 泰成 (born August 14, 1970) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Kahoku, Ishikawa. He made his debut in January 1993 and wrestled for Matsugane stable. His highest rank was makushita 16 and he retired in July 1997.

Early Life[]

Hiroki Murotani was born on August 14, 1970, in Kahoku, Ishikawa. He attended Kanazawa Municipal Technical High School where he was a member of the school's sumo club. He went on to attend Chuo University where he was teammates with the future Mutetsuyama. After graduating, he joined Matsugane stable.

Career[]

He made his professional debut in January 1993 and took the jonokuchi yusho with a perfect 7-0 record in March 1993. He followed with three consecutive 6-1 records and was promoted to makushita in November 1993 after less than a year in sumo. However, he suffered an injury and was relegated back down to sandanme in May 1994. He won the sandanme yusho in November 1994 and was promoted to a career-best makushita 16 rank for the following January 1995 tournament. In January 1996, he was given the shikona "Wakayashima" (若八嶋). He continued to be relatively injury prone and retired from sumo in July 1997.

Fighting Style[]

Wakayashima was proficient in both yotsu-sumo (grappling) and oshi-sumo (pushing and thrusting) techniques. His most common techniques are yorikiri (force out) and oshidashi (push out).
