Yamanakayama Kazuhiro - 山中山 和洋 (born September 17, 1970) is a former Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Ogawa, Tochigi. He made his debut in March 1986 and last wrestled for Magaki stable. He reached the juryo division in November 1992. His highest rank was juryo 13 and he retired in March 1997.

Early Life[]

Nakayama was born the eldest son and his family was engaged in the construction industry. He initially practiced judo in elementary school and won many regional tournaments. In junior high school, he practiced sumo in addition to judo. During his second year, he won second place in a sumo competition in his prefecture. He was then recruited by Magaki Oyakata (the 56th yokozuna Wakanohana) to join his stable. After graduating junior high school he joined Magaki stable.

Career[]

He was given the shikona "Yamanakayama" (山中山) and he made his professional debut in March 1986. He was promoted to sandanme in July 1987 and makushita in September 1989. He was able to establish himself in Makushita, but a knee injury sent him back down to sandanme. He was able to bounce back by winning the sandanme yusho in January 1992 and he was promoted to juryo in November 1992. Yamanakayama could only manage 4 wins in his lone sekitori tournament. He announced his retirement after the March 1997 tournament due to an injury.

Fighting Style[]

Yamanakayama was a tsuki/oshi specialist, who prefers pushing and thrusting at his opponents rather than fighting on the mawashi or belt. His most common winning kimarite was oshidashi, or push out.
