Yonezawaryu Daiki - 米沢龍 大喜 (born March 28, 2005) is a Japanese professional sumo wrestler from Yonezawa, Yamagata. He made his debut in May 2024 and currently wrestles for Sakaigawa stable. His highest rank as of 2025 is makushita 56.

Early Life[]

Daiki Igarashi was born on March 28, 2005, in Yonezawa, Yamagata, to a Japanese father and a Filipino mother.[1] He attended Yonezawa Chuo High School where he was a member of the school's judo club.[2] After graduating high school, he enrolled at Nihon University to continue his judo career. However, he dropped out of university after only one year to pursue a career in professional sumo, despite no prior experience.[3]

He made his professional debut in May 2024 and was given the shikona "Yonezawaryu" (米沢龍) in July 2024. He finished with an underwhelming 3-4 record in his first official tournament, but bounced back with three consecutive 6-1 records which earned him a promotion to makushita for the March 2025 tournament. Despite lacking a sumo background, Yonezawaryu managed to reach makushita in under a year.[4]

Yonezawaryu is a yotsu-sumo wrestler who prefers grappling to pushing and thrusting techniques. He won most of his bouts with a straightforward yorikiri, or force out.[5]
